Don’t Bring Your Pets When Viewing Homes
Pets and Home Showings
It's time to break out your saddest goodbyes because it's time to leave your pets at home when you come for a house tour. Now, don't go thinking we don't love our animal pals - we surely do! We've had furry friends of all shapes and sizes grace us with their presence in this office. But unfortunately, when you're stepping into someone else's home as a guest, it's best to leave your pet behind. No need for anyone to be mad about it, though; there are reasons we ask you to do this.
Allergies
Your pup may be well-groomed, but don't let their looks fool you; they're still leaving a trail of fur wherever they go. Just like Hansel and Gretel, your dog leaves behind 'breadcrumbs' no matter how short or long their hair is! If anyone in the house has allergies - including that agent showing you that sweet home - it could lead to an uncomfortable situation if not properly addressed.
Accidents
Even the best-behaved pets can have accidents in unfamiliar places - and those moments are never fun! Imagine your agent having to call a homeowner after you've gone, just to let them know that while they weren't around their house welcomed an unexpected guest - of the four-legged kind. And sure, it might be cleaned up but there's no guarantee that any lingering odors won't stick around like uninvited guests too.
Damages
Let's face it - sometimes our furry friends just do not know their own strength. I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely seen a wagging tail clear a coffee table or break something unexpectedly. Also, those little doggie nails have been known to scratch wood floors. Who wants a bill for floor restoration?
Other animals
Even if none of the items above is an issue, what if the seller has a pet in the home already? We all know how animals can feel when strangers suddenly enter their domain, so be prepared for your pet and theirs to hit it off – or not – with unpredictable consequences.
The bottom line
When home shopping, pets should either be left safely at home or, at a minimum, left in the car during the tour. They'll able to unpack their own toys once you're settled in your new place!
